Agilent 8453 UV-Vis Spectrophotometer with ChemStation General Software

            The Macromolecular Equipment Core Facility offers an Agilent 8453 UV-Vis Spectrophotometer with ChemStations software for analysis.  The 8453 is a solid system for the collection of light in the Ultraviolet and Visible spectrum.  Applications for UV-Vis spectrophotometry include nucleic acid quantification, protein quantification, cell quantification, and monitoring enzyme reactions along with a variety of other uses.

            The ChemStations software adds a variety of functions to the already useful spectrophotometer.  This software allows the user to measure absorbance at up to six wavelengths simultaneously then measure the spectra and detect the peaks or valleys automatically.  Also, the software is capable of automating the measurement of standards, controls, and samples.
